PRESS RELEASE

Colorado International School became the first school in the United States to plant over 100 indigenous trees for each 2007-2008 curriculum student.  A total of 5,000 trees will be planted among the countries of Belize, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Niger, and Panama.
Colorado International School is an American international school that prepares preK-8th grade students for future educational success and lifelong learning through immersion in Spanish, Mandarin, or French.  English is taught from 1st-8th grades.  The school also offers enrichment and camp programs in those languages as well as in German, Russian, Japanese, Farsi, Italian, and Arabic.
We are always looking for ways the students can learn about other countries and cultures. We decided that a reforestation program is an excellent way to 'teach by example'. We came across a Plant-It 2020 brochure and loved the fact that they are Colorado-based and are able to provide a customized reforestation project that ties in with our many international educational programs.  We will provide a science-based education regarding the numerous ways trees directly affect the earth, humanity, and wildlife,” says Cielle Amundson, Head of Colorado International School.
The trees are being planted by Plant-It 2020, a Colorado-based non-profit founded by the late singer John Denver.  Founded in 1992, Plant-It 2020 has planted over 8 million trees worldwide, created the original ‘dollar-per-tree’ program, and continues John Denver’s ideal of bringing the world’s forest back to health and sustainability. Executive Director of Plant-It 2020, Michael Thau, says, "we love it when schools get involved in reforestation projects as it provides a terrific opportunity for the students to learn about such things as forestry, global warming, and sustainability."
